The emphasis on a successful, non-controversial G6 has become apparent. Apparent in the way that rumors for the device are going against the G5’s modular accessory system and more towards thorough mobile payments capabilities plus an iris-scanning selfie camera.
Now comes word from the Electronic Times that the design of the G6 will end up sealing the battery — making it non-removable — keep its Quantum IPS LCD in place, but add on water resistance.
Samsung used proofing tape sourced from 3M to achieve IP68 ratings in the Galaxy S7, S7 edge and Note 7. While it’s easy to engineer around, the tape is also a pricey proposition. LG may instead turn to sources like LG Display, Japan-based DIC and German company Henkel for cheaper, but trickier adhesives instead.
Word from the Korea Herald also mentions wireless charging is in the mix, but unlike before where the feature had to be added on through an accessory, the charging coils could be integrated into the device.
